005//A little TLC.

I decided to pamper myself at Saints Salon. They closed down the place just for me and we popped a bottle of champagne. At one point there were about 15 people gathered in the front window trying to peek in to find out who exactly was getting their hair done at 9pm on a Friday night. Needless to say, it was as close as I have ever come to feeling like a celebrity.

003//Easter Sushi

Happy, not so happy Monday! Hope you all had a fantastic Easter. I spent mine in a 3hr yoga class, tanning at the beach and eating at my new favorite sushi restaurant SAKETINI. This place is truly a neighborhood gem. They offer a mix of japanese and korean cuisine and $10 lunch and dinner specials. I ALWAYS get the Roll Mania (18 pieces of sushi/10 bucks) and although cheap sushi may be questionable the freshness is evident in every bite. Also, it’s owned by this very attractive asian God Sung Kang. He played Hun in the 2002 movie, Better Luck Tomorrow. So, if your ever in Brentwood do stop by, its delicioso!

002//DIY Whole Wheat Pancakes

Saturday Mornings are typically best for eating pancakes, especially if you need to build up strength for some afternoon shopping.

Whole Wheat Pancakes
2 cups of whole wheat flour
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1-1/2-2 cups of milk
3-4 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
5 tbsp oil

Mix all dry ingredients together in one bowl, and all wet ingredients in another.
Combine both and whisk, whisk, whisk until the batter is nice and fluffy.
Pour into pan, flip over (this is the part where I add some bananas) and serve!

For those of you living in the Los Angeles area and looking for something somewhat different to do this weekend, I have a couple suggestions.

If the classic horror film ‘IT’ didn’t make you squirm then you may just want to make your way down to Culver City Tonight for CIRQUE DU SO LAME. For only $5 you can take some snapshots in their photobooth while indulging in some cotton candy! This Circus themed event, is definitely one to check out.

BUT if clowns aren’t your thing, then why not head down to the Nuart Theatre in West LA for a midnight showing of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW every Saturday Night!

As for Sundays, I prefer brunch and shopping. I typically opt for a 9am wake up call to JET RAG for their $1 Vintage Sale. [FYI//People get down and dirty while digging through piles of clothes but if your patient you may just find what your looking for.] After that battle of the fashionistas, I build up quite an appetite and love to head over to THE GRIDDLE for some amazing French pressed coffee and their Tequila Sunrise Egg Specialty. [FYI//The wait can be long, but if you have time to kill and aren’t famished its worth the wait.] If your stomach is grumbling uncontrollably, PINKS Hotdogs is right down the street from Jet Rag and offers the best sauerkraut chili hot dog I have ever had the pleasure of devouring.

With that said, I hope you all have a lovely weekend and bask in everything LA has to offer!

THE BLOG///Hello and Welcome to Mink Coats No Manners. Here you will find daily doses of personal photographs, fashion, design, food & culture. I will also post clumsy stories about my shenanigans in LA and anything else that inspires me.

THE GIRL IN THE MUG SHOTS///I am a freelance print & web designer who recently learned that I have been spelling my middle name (Francisca) wrong all my life until now. I once had a beagle named Penny, but my Argentinean grandmother overfed her and she died from diabetes.

ENJOY///I hope Mink Coats No Manners serves as an outlet for inspiration or as a simple distraction for when life gets to serious.
